Chapter 3

   

Vampires exist in this world and so do werewolves. Were different from other werewolves you’ve heard of. For one we don’t eat humans. We are known as the guardians of humans from vampires. We eat like humans except for the exception of some fresh deer. Next is that we can transform anytime, but we are considered at our strongest moment under a full moon. Theres also the exception that you can only be a werewolf if you are born as one, not created. I am the first son of Cana and Kurt. My father is the chief of our clan and I’m next in line. We werewolves are trained at a young age to know how to hunt and kill vampires. This is where my story begins.

“Dad get up it’s time to go,” I yelled.

“It’s only sunset wake me up in a few hours,” said dad.

“But you promised to teach me how to hunt today.”

“Okay.  I’m up.”

“Yay.” I can’t believe it. I’m finally old enough to start my training. It’s about time for me to contribute to my clan. After dad gets ready we leave for the woods. The full moon feels great and it’s a sign that it’s a perfect time to hunt.

“Now son, you must remember vampires are fast and stealthy. Their not like any other creatures, so you must be prepared to outsmart them. First you need to transform before we continue.” I watch as my dad turns into his full wolf form. My dad has a coat black as night which makes him the best hunter and chief of our clan.

“Okay here i go.” I can feel my body changing. It feels like my body is on fire, but instead fur is surrounding my body. I turn to a medium size wolf with reddish fur. My dad is impressed and starts to hunt. I follow along helping him hunt deer. We keep going for an hour when my dad stopped.

“Dad is something wrong,” I asked.

“Theres a vampire nearby. I don’t know how many, but I can smell blood,” said dad.  I froze. My first hunt and there is a vampire out here. “Stay here i’ll check it out.”

Dad left into the darkness leaving me alone here. It was a few minutes, when I heard something. Something or someone was running towards my direction. I hid behind a tree waiting to see the creature. Within a few seconds I see a girl. She had blond hair,red eyes, a bloody neck, bloody clothes and looks about my age. She seems to be running away. She disappeared behind  the trees and I see my dad come out.

“Shane! Have you seen a girl?” asked dad.

“Yeah. She ran behind those trees. Why are you hunting her dad?”

“Because she’s the vampire I sensed earlier.” I was shocked. She looked like a normal looking girl, but I guess the blood and red eyes should of gave it away. My dad ran in the direction she went and I decided to head back home and tell the other clan members. As I entered my house I see my mom talking to Drake, my dad’s best friend.

“Hey Shane you’re back early. How was the hunt?” asked Drake.

“Drake!!! Dad and I seen a vampire in the forest,” I said. As I said it Drake jumped out of his chair.

“Where’s your dad?”

“He’s still in the forest following her.” I finished in time to hear my dad howl. He was saying that he needed back up. Drake ran out of the house to get his kids. They were old enough and fast enough to catch a vampire. They transformed and ran into the woods. I stood there deciding whether to go or not, when mom grabs a hold of me.

“Shane you must stay here. I know you want to help, but vampires are too dangerous and fast for you right now. You need more training,” she said. I stopped and realized she was right. The girl was almost too fast for me to get a good look. I stay in the kitchen and wait for their return. The sun was starting to rise when we see them come back. None of them looked bloody or even put up a fight.

“Did you find her dad?”

“No she found a way to escape. She’s probably already in the other clans territory. We just have to wait until the sunsets before we can search again. I’m surprised at one thing though.”

“What’s surprising dad?”

“This girl shows signs of being a new vampire. Usually new vampires aren’t that fast or strong when they first turn, especially if their kids. Theres also the fact of who turned her without us knowing. We would be able to sense them, but this vampire was able to get her somehow.”

“So you’re saying that there’s a possibility of there being another vampire.”

“Yes, theres a possibility.” The group came into our house and started to plan how to try to find the two vampires. I finally went upstairs to try to sleep. I lay there, but can’t sleep. I can’t get the image of the girl out of my head. She looks to be ten years old, the same age as me. Why would a vampire want to change a normal ten year old to a vampire? It just doesn’t make sense. I finally fell asleep during the middle of my thoughts.

I wake up to hear dad and the others leave once again.Once again I can’t go with them, so I’m stuck at home having to go to school. Oh wait I’m home schooled. I wish I could go to a regular school, but dad says that I could lose control and accidently transform. I go downstair to see my mom cook dinner.

“ Good night Shane. How did you sleep,” she asked?

“I had a hard time falling asleep,” I answered.

“What’s wrong honey?” Usually I wouldn’t tell my parents much, but since my dad was gone I decided to tell her. I told her how I felt sorry for the girl. She looked at me with a smile.

“Aren’t you mad? I’m feeling sorry for a vampire. The exact creatures we want to kill.”

“I’m happy for your just like me. I don’t just consider her as a vampire, but a human being. She is an innocent girl who had a tragedy fall onto her. She is probably scared and confused. She probably doesn’t even know what to do right now. Your father probably scared her more than anything.”

“So you feel the same way as I do. I wish we could just figure out more, but we both know dad.” Mom gave me a “of course” look and went back to cooking. As I sit there and wait, I could feel someone watching me. I look towards the woods and I could see eyes. Blood red eyes that seem to pierce through and I knew right then.It was the vampire girl. I transformed and ran out of the house. I wanted to prove to dad I could hunt a vampire. As I got closer she didn’t move a muscle. I was finally within a ten feet radius. She still doesn’t show signs of moving.

“Why aren’t you running. I’m here to kill you,” I said. She still didn’t move. She just stared at me. “Look if you don’t answer i’ll...”

“I know you won’t kill me,” said the girl. I was shocked. She finally spoke. I liked her voice it seemed light and friendly. “I don’t want to be trouble for you and the other werewolves.”

“How do I know you’re not lying? You could easily have the guy who turned you right behind you to...”

“I WOULD NEVER TRUST A COWARD LIKE HIM!” She glared at me with her blood red eye. She made a dumb move for the clan started to come in this direction. I decided to attack, but she could sense me and ran away before I had a chance. I howled to let them know where she was going. Within a few seconds my mom was behind me shocked that I was out here. I told her I found the vampire and she ran away. She brings me back to the house.

“You shouldn’t scare me like that Shane. What would you do if she killed you?” I stared at her. I clearly didn’t think things through.  I apologized and went upstairs. I layed on my bed just watching the full moon. I wonder if I will ever see the vampire girl again. Little did I know, she was going to be a big part of my life.
